Introduction
The 7th ISDEV
International Development Management Conference is the seventh of a series of initiative

of the 6th ISDEV International Development Management Conference with
the theme: Islamic Management of Human Development which was held at
Universiti Sains Malaysia on
29th –30th August 2012.
This year, the conference aims
to achieve the following objectives:

2) To present the latest research findings related to all issues Towards Islamic Research Methodology, domestically and internationally, that relate to the philosophy and concepts, issues, challenges, prospects,transformation of Islamic Research Methodology into a more effective and dynamic field of study and as well as a more vibrant industry;
3) To explore new ideas and issues on Islamic Research Methodology especially those that could contribute towards Islamic Research Methodology that is able to lead to the maximisation of benefits for the ummah.
Rationale
The current state of affairs
in using conventional research methodology to study on Islam is deemed as
inadequate. This has led to the inability to accurately define and overcome the
issues, problems and challenges on Islam. Islamic Research Methodology strives
to formulate and develop a research methodology that could overcome these
problems, based on Islamic doctrines. It is a fairly new area, deemed to still
be at its exploratory stage.
Islamic Research Methodology starts
with its philosophical underpinnings deeply rooted from the primary absolute
sources of Islam and yet goes beyond the philosophical underpinnings state. It
provides a holistic methodology including the techniques involved such as in
the collection of data and the analysis of data. It attempts to bring forth,
for example, the methodologies used by classical scholars in building the
compendium of knowledge throve into current research on Islam. This means
Islamic Research Methodology strives to redefine certain concepts, definitions
and theories that are embedded within the conventional research methodology and
proves why these very concepts, definitions and theories are incompatible and
inadequate to be used on any research on Islam.
This conference attempts to
seek the answers to these problems, as well as to formulate innovative ways and
strategies to turn them into actions, implementations and realizations, with
forward-looking insights into the keys that could pave the way towards Islamic
Research Methodology, from the current level to a more highly productive level.
This is a conference that hopes
to be able to blend new, innovative and practical minds, unlike the common
stereotype, reiterative and rhetorical ones. So are the papers and discussions
expected for this conference.
